Doing, Doing, Doing

One of my biggest challenges is turning off my “doing” mode.

Growing up with a workaholic father who constantly urged me to “do something productive,” I became really good at getting things done. But now, even though productivity still matters, I often find myself wrestling with the ability to simply be—to slow down and appreciate the moment.

This morning, as part of my usual routine, I took the dog out. The sun was rising, and I could feel its warmth on my face. I stood there, just appreciating the moment. I felt grateful and whole.

As I turned to head back inside, I reminded myself that just being in the moment is a pretty special thing. And while crossing things off a list is satisfying, it’s a distant second.

After a lifetime of doing, remember the gift of simply allowing yourself to be still, to feel peace, to experience the moment. You’ve earned it!
