A friend recommended the work of Yung Pueblo, the pen name for author and philosopher, Diego Perez. One of his books, Clarity and Connection, is a constant companion. It’s easy to just flip to a random page and read words that seem to find a home in my body and soul.
Today, while flipping through, I found the following:
“how many times
has your mind
taken a small piece
of uncertain information
and spun a story around it that
ends up consuming your thoughts?”
The answer for me is simple….way too often. My solution, when it finally dawns on me that I’ve been consumed by useless thoughts, is to ask myself questions. Such as: Is this true? How can I verify it? Am I spinning a story based on fear, ignorance, or laziness?
Typically, the answers come back like a swift kick in the shins. It’s time to get out of my head and focus on what is real, verifiable, and important.
What about you? Do you find yourself constructing stories that lack substance and reality?
Let me hear your thoughts.
