The hero’s journey

By September 17, 2020 No Comments

Joseph Campbell wrote extensively about the hero’s journey—the perils and challenges from innocence to resolved hero.

He describes the 12 stages from where the story begins in safety, his call to adventure, misgiving and the motivations and tests along the way. It is epic ordeal, failure, striving and finally the reward.

We see this in books and movies like “The Avengers”, “Star Wars” “The Matrix”, “The Lord of the Rings: Trilogy”, “A Wrinkle in Time” and “American Gods” to name just a few.

Our lives follow the hero’s journey in many ways. We begin in the safety of childhood and as we age, we face tests, challenges, failures and ordeals. We meet mentors and enemies. We find inner strength and resolve to get up when we get knocked down.

In Chapter X, we face new challenges on our way to fulfillment. We may battle new demons; find new challenges and meet new mentors and enemies.

But our resolve, desire and fortitude to continue to grow and meet the test will carry us through…even if we find moments of doubt.

Keep fighting…

Keep growing…

Take confidence from the lessons you learned from the past.

Cheers,

Michael
