Friends raising a glass together at the end of the day is a lovely way to toast life and all its ups and downs.
Of course with social distancing, the raised glasses are on either side of a computer screen.
For some, that’s comforting and even joyful.
For others, the virtual conviviality is shallow at best and loathsome at worst (I’ve heard everything in between).
I’ve also heard that people from whom you haven’t heard a peep for years and years are suddenly popping up to say ‘hello’.
Delightful reconnection or “WTF, where’ve they been these last 10 years?”
The reality is, we are confronting this situation without prior experience or even a map of what to do. So, we’re all grasping in our own ways…
So here are my suggestions:
Look at your mindset. If you’re in a foul mood or feeling depressed, try and get a handle on what you need.
Classify your feelings (happy, sad, lonely, anxious, etc.)
Figure out who is the person (or people) who lifts you up. You need them now!
This is not the time to be shy. Ask for what you need.
No one knows when this will end and what it will look like when it does. Keeping yourself healthy and steady—physically and emotionally—is vitally important. Try and identify where you’re feeling unsafe and address it.
Please let me know how you’re doing!
