When my kids were young, they adamantly demanded a night light be kept on while they slept. They, like many youngsters, were afraid of the dark.
COVID-19 has cast our lives into a completely unforeseen and unexpected shadow of illness, death and fear. A darkness has descended over the world leading to crippling anxiety. Media reports paint an ever-terrifying picture of what is to come.
It seems to me that we can crawl into fetal position in a dark corner or we can find a way to bring in the light.
We can give into paralyzing fear or we can stand bravely to face the challenge.
We can learn from history how others have survived unbearable hardships.
We can keep our heads to support ourselves and others to stay calm and focused.
We can avoid projections, guesses and theories that stoke fear and hysteria.
We can approach each day with courage and determination.
Our children and grandchildren rely on us to keep the light on!
