Deciding to act

By November 22, 2020 No Comments

There are things we need to do. There are things we need to change. There are actions we need to take.

If it’s something we really want, we jump on it pretty quickly.

If it’s something that is painful, annoying or difficult, avoidance is the result—until that is not longer possible.

Here are some personal examples:

Over the last year, I gained some extra pounds. I admit it—I love food. I avoided making changes until I reached the point where I either had to act or buy bigger clothes.

I had made a promise to myself years ago to not ever do that, because it is a slippery slope that can only end with a stack of various sized clothes, stuffed drawers and ill-health. I avoided taking action, until I had to act.

I wanted to plant a vegetable garden. I had never done more than a few tomato plants in patio buckets. I did some research and then contacted the guy who takes care of my lawn and told him I wanted a garden dug, fenced in with chicken wire on all sides and framed with 2X4’s. I told him I wanted topsoil, fertilizer and whatever would ensure proper drainage. I wanted it—I acted.

What about you? Share some examples of things you jumped on and what you avoided. What observations can you make about change and your mindset?
