Balance

Finding balance in life, for many, is a significant challenge. It’s something I am thinking very actively as I work towards my transition. Working all the time isn’t balance, nor is sitting on your butt all day in front of the screen.

What happens when you’re out of balance? Consider these examples:

  • Only exercising your biceps in a workout.
  • Eating only one food (even if it’s pizza).
  • Reading one genre of books.
  • Listening to only one podcast (except Chapter X, of course).
  • Playing the same song on an instrument.
  • Traveling only to the same destination.

Those are a few examples (albeit somewhat extreme) to showcase the limitations of living in the extreme.

Finding balance is not always easy and it might require a nudge outside of your comfort zone. But think of it this way: you might enjoy looking at a rose, but there are other flowers and plants in the garden.

Open your horizons as wide as possible.

Revel in the newness of different experiences.

Celebrate each decision to try something new.

Appreciate the fact that, while you breathe, you may still learn, grow, experience and enjoy discovering something else.

Being “IN BALANCE” is not a permanent state—it fluctuates with changing circumstances. It’s an ideal more than a true reality. Consider what you can do to widen what is narrow; to approach things with a learner’s mind and find gratitude in each attempt.
