The Last Rose

By December 12, 2021 No Comments

The outdoor furniture, hoses, pots and assorted decorations are stored away for the winter. The vegetable garden is clear of stakes and cages until the spring. The bushes are trimmed back, bulbs are planted, and the last application of fertilizer was put down on the lawn.

It’s hibernation time….except….

In making a final sweep of the yard, I spotted a solitary rosebud on the one rosebush on my property. Its tiny redhead stood out in the dying canes and leaves. I clipped the bud, curious if it would bloom indoors. I wasn’t hopeful, as we are only days away from Thanksgiving.

Alas, I entered the kitchen this morning to see a glorious little rose that filled the air with its scent. Such a wonderful surprise.

Sometimes, amazing things happen….if we are open to possibilities and take action.
