Practicing “Being” – Part Four

By June 28, 2022 No Comments

Yesterday was a busy and tiring day. I was up early to pack for a week away. After loading the car with food, clothes, computers, and dog, we made our way to the Berkshires. It was a three-hour-drive that, while not grueling, required concentration.

By the end of the day, after unpacking and a bunch of errands, I was tired and decided to take the next day “off.”

My day started out, after coffee, of course, with a long walk with the dog. My intention was to simply soak in what was in front, below, on the side and above me; to ignite my senses as much as possible.

I observed an azure blue sky with wisps of white clouds in the distance. The sun was wonderfully warm on my skin and the breeze prevented any discomfort. The air was sweet and loamy, as the surrounding woods emitted an earthy aroma that you could taste on your tongue.

The fiddlehead ferns had erupted into their full nature and all that remained of the dandelions were partially intact puffy heads.

Birds made their presence known with a series of chirps, calls and songs. There are very few vehicles, so walking is generally without worry, one must be aware that bears are common (you definitely do not want to be found between momma and cub).

As we neared the end of the walk, the sky was coated in a thin layer of white clouds. It was as if a layer of spackle had been spread over the blue.

The crunch of my sneakers on the gravel reminded me of someone I know eating a crispy salad. It made me laugh. At that moment, I wished my kids and grandchildren were here with me to share this experience; the peacefulness, beauty and miracle of the world.

It was a very ‘being’ day.
