As I previously shared, my life in Chapter X has taken a sharp u-turn back into music. While my previous training missed things like music theory and jazz improvisation, I’m learning those skills now. It’s not easy, but I’m committed to learning in the most joyful way possible.
What I’ve noticed is that Chapter X is a lot like jazz improvisation. A jazz piece begins with a basic structure, like a melody or theme. Only after the theme has been established are musicians able to play with it and expand it. That’s when we begin to experiment with phrasing, melody and thematic context.
Chapter X is pretty much the same. We begin, hopefully, with some basic ideas or principles and then off we go—experimenting, free-wheeling and poking into new and exciting areas.
However, I recognize that not everyone sees it this way. I would love to hear about your explorations.
