Last night, after enjoying a pleasant dinner with friends, my wife and I came face-to-face with an old college friend and frat brother while walking back to our car.
It was completely unexpected as he lives on Long Island, so running into each other in suburban New Jersey was certainly a surprise.
It turns out that he and his wife took his mother out for dinner and were enjoying the beautiful summer evening out. We chatted happily, catching up on decades, children, grandchildren, and mutual friends. We laughed, enjoying the shared moments and warm memories of college.
We parted with smiles all around and hopes of seeing each other soon. It was a dessert I savored throughout the remainder of the evening—and I woke up this morning still filled with the joy of seeing an old friend.
Connecting with others is filling, meaningful and joyful. I commit to creating more of these moments.
