If you’ve been keeping up with some of my ramblings, you know that music is a big part of my life once again (after a 50+ year absence).
Last year, I began playing with a local jazz ensemble led by the incomparable Ed Palermo (he has his own professional big band…look him up). It’s been joyful, fun, and enriching to play again.
Last week we performed in a small jazz club along with three other ensembles. It was incredibly fun and, for me, so meaningful. In my wildest imagination, I never expected to have my family see me perform and, while my son and daughter-in-law in Chicago were unable to make it, my wife, daughter, and oldest granddaughter were there. We all can find things that light us up. It’s a matter of desire and, in many cases, personal courage to jump in. If you haven’t discovered the thing that lights you up yet, don’t worry–look for activities, interests, causes or pursuits that you might find engaging and give it a try.
