Making New Friends

By March 28, 2023 No Comments

I’ve heard from many men the problems of creating friendships and a social circle in Chapter X. Of course, the challenges for us introverts are manifold, but that need not keep us sequestered in our man caves. From all the literature, we know the importance of having a strong, meaningful social circle of support. But for many, this is a confounding problem.

The leap out of the comfort zone feels daunting. After all, what if any advances you make in trying to create new friendships end up with rejection? Will you dissolve into a puddle of regret? Will you burn into ash at a rebuff?

Trust me, as a committed introvert, I’ve felt the pain, the resistance, the fear and the emotional constraints of stepping into the fire of potential refusal. But I have realized that nothing is gained by not trying to explore the experiences and ideas of others.

What is the old saying? Something like…what do you call a baseball player who fails two-thirds of the time to get a hit? A Hall of Famer! Remember, anyone who doesn’t pick up on your offer to connect is missing something special—YOU!

Keep trying! The payoff is important to your health and happiness. In the end, what could be more worthy of your actions?
