There’s so much written about the importance of progressive exercise to build and retain muscle mass as we age. The same is true for our brain health. It is crucial to continually learn and actively utilize our mental capacity.
Studies show learning something new is a great way to push yourself out of your comfort zone and use your brain power. Some of the items mentioned are learning a new language, a new skill and taking courses that introduce something different.
I am a fan of Duolingo. While I have a good ear for language pronunciations, I don’t have a superior memory. In addition, as I’ve written in the past, I am slowly learning music theory, which is also a new language. I recognize that I don’t have the capacity or patience to devote hours at a time, but I keep pushing.
