You may already be familiar with IQ (intelligence quotient) and EQ (emotional IQ), but there’s another “Q” to consider: your RQ or Resilience Quotient. Resilience often goes unnoticed as it happens unconsciously, yet it’s a key component of living your best life.
To determine your RQ–and this is NOT scientific–is to take a moment to reflect on your life and create a list of the challenges you’ve faced. These could range from navigating puberty, transitioning to college, getting your first job, losing a job, facing a business failure, a failed relationship, battling a serious illness, coping with divorce, or dealing with the death of a loved one. The list of personal challenges can indeed be vast and varied.
Now, think about what it took to overcome, endure, and recover from each of these trials. Consider whether these experiences held meaning for you, as they might have taught you important lessons about your capabilities and resilience.
The more you’ve learned and grown—improving yourself emotionally and intellectually—the higher your RQ becomes, enhancing your ability to confront and navigate the big challenges that lie ahead.
