Before all the summer travel, my exercise routine was humming along: six days a week of weight training and cardio. I was feeling great. Once we went away, I didn’t do any weight training, but we managed to walk an average of 18,000-20,000 steps a day.
Upon return, I struggled to resume my previous frequency. First, a minor but completely annoying illness got in the way. Then, we headed to the Berkshires to spend time with my son and his family.
After being back for only four days, I managed to squeeze in two training sessions with my trainer before we headed to the Jersey Shore with my daughter and her two girls. We did a lot of walking during that trip, covering an average of 3-4 miles per day.
Although a part of me considered pushing through the discomfort, I ultimately chose to take the day off. I decided to rest, read, write, and try to be still (which is no mean feat considering my granddaughters need my constant attention).
What is it you need? Do you resist or give in to what your brain and body are calling for?
