For many men, life often runs along a relatively narrow view. You know, work-focused, family, maybe a hobby or two. But in Chapter X, there’s a whole lot of time to fill, you might find yourself stuck without many ideas to explore. If you’re feeling blocked or at a dead-end, here are a few ideas that might help:
- Audit a college course on a subject that has always interested you.
- Look for a community-based organization where you can volunteer and make an impact.
- Explore the resources available within your local community.
- Consider working with a coach who can help you broaden your thinking.
- Understand your limitations. For example, if you’re interested in downhill skiing, but you live in a warm climate state, you might need to adapt your interests or be prepared to travel.
- Reflect on your mindset: Are you open to change or do you tend to resist it? Does your resistance shut you down from trying new things? If so, a shift in your thinking might be in order.
- Understand that fear-driven decisions are killers to living your best life, and discomfort is not a fatal disease.
The pathway to widening your focal point lies right in front of you. Remember, you’ve faced and overcome tons of challenges throughout your life…this is just one more opportunity for growth.
