Surrender

It’s been too long since I’ve been on a yoga mat. I attribute part of it to being unable to find a studio that suits my needs, part of it to my focus on resistance training, and if I’m being completely honest, part of it to laziness.

Today, I signed up for a class at my gym. Note: I became a member through my Medicare plan and haven’t really used it regularly as I usually train with a private trainer. Nonetheless, I signed up for a class titled “Surrender,” described as a more restorative type of yoga, rather than an ass-busting vinyasa session.

The postures are designed to allow your body to release tension and your mind to slow down and just be. This is a challenge, considering my very “busy” mind. Halfway through the class, I noticed my breathing slowing and my mind calming. I observed the stillness in the room and within myself as I allowed gravity and peace to break through my resistance, leaving the class feeling more centered, calm, and relaxed.

Sometimes, it’s good to just surrender.
