I expect you know all about plate spinning. You remember watching Ed Sullivan on Sunday nights, with the guys who kept all those plates spinning without letting any fall. It was a lesson in chaotic activity, which, while entertaining, created heart palpitations (at least for me).
I’ve been doing a bit of plate spinning recently. After a week off from exercise and trumpet playing, followed by a week of family in town and Thanksgiving, I’m trying to regain a “normal” routine that isn’t packed with “musts.”
To be honest, it’s challenging. There are other factors at play right now that are adding to the frantic feeling of not having enough time, enough focus, and enough headspace for everything.
Rather than let all the plates come crashing down, I’m trying to focus on the big ones. If the smaller ones fall… the mess won’t be as big. Breathing is a good remedy for me—just taking a few calming deep breaths while feeling my feet planted on the floor.
How do you deal with your spinning dishware?
