A Message from the Great Unknown

Okay, I’ll admit it. I am a sucker for fortune cookies. No, no, not the actual cookie—they kinda suck. But every now and then, I get the urge for Chinese food and wonder what my fortune will be this time.

Mostly, the fortunes are ridiculous to the point of stupidity. But every now and then….

The other night, after ordering takeout, I began the clean-up process from the debauchery of my meal (yeah, cleaning up to-go containers is no big challenge). I spotted the cellophane-wrapped cookies in the bag and extricated one, handing the other to my wife (I demanded she participate in my foolishness).

Here’s what I read:

“It is what you haven’t done that will torment you.”

Holy crap…yes! It’s been a while since any two-inch slip of paper has rocked my brain, but this one did. I know it’s dopey but OMG, this hit home. My proclivity towards attraction to new and different experiences has always tormented me and now, as I move ever closer to my transition, vexes me more.

I will continue to ponder how to manage those feelings…after all, no one likes ‘torment’. But the question is how to manage my curiosity without making me completely crazy!
