Throughout our lives, we spend a lot of time becoming who we are.
We begin with little to no skills and through hard work, perseverance, ability to learn, adapt and evolve—we become someone with skills, experience and success.
When the page is turned and we are no longer who we were, we need to create a new purpose and evolve yet again. It’s really the same process but with a different outcome in mind. Your purpose now might be to learn, to give back, to experience, to model a behavior to your children or grandchildren or to find a different path.
Looking backward is useful from the standpoint of remembering your resilient attitude and ability to adapt to new situations, but otherwise, try and keep your focus on the now and who you are becoming.
