Amidst the May Flies

By May 28, 2022 No Comments

A warm sun hosted a beautiful May afternoon in the Berkshires. The first signs of spring are everywhere; the trees are sporting their knife-like buds, ready to open into leaf blooms.

Wildflowers in yellow and purple line the paths and shoots of fiddlehead ferns are beginning to push their way into full show. But with May comes the invasive May flies, which seem to have an affinity for my eyes, ears and mouth.

They distract me from seeking out the abundant flora that is everywhere.

And they obstruct my ability to take in a deep breath of fresh, clean air.

It takes an effort to ignore these pesky mites, but the draw of nature and all its incredible beauty is overwhelming, and I do my best to focus on the exciting bits of beauty all around me.

Just like in Chapter X, distractions abound. The question is whether you can swat them away to see all the opportunities for growth, fun, rest, exploration, and new avenues of adventure.
