For me, one of the biggest challenges of this transition into life after my career is my ability to put my change of pace into a different perspective. For as long as I can remember, I woke up every workday (which was sometimes 7 days a week) with a purpose and pace to get stuff done.
I knew my mission and what I needed to accomplish that day. Now, each morning, I need to reset my thinking from a lifetime of training to this new iteration. I still consider what my day will look like; what activities, tasks that require my attention, or time to just relax and breathe.
Weeding the garden, practicing trumpet, exercising, recording a podcast, reading or even just sitting down to write a blog post or two all take up portions of the day. It’s good, but it’s different from what my brain and body became trained to do.
For someone who is not known for great patience, it’s a challenge. However, being intentional with my thoughts and maintaining a positive inner conversation is helpful.
How do you navigate your change of pace?
