Change your words—change your brain

By April 18, 2020 No Comments

Words have power.

We connect words to very specific feelings.

For example, if you think “terror”,“crisis” or “ panic” you set off a rush of cortisol (the fight or flight hormone) that surges through your body.

Flooding the body with cortisol is linked with a whole raft of diseases and illnesses.

So try changing your words…

From CRISIS…try SITUATION. i.e. we will get through this situation. Way less anxiety producing than crisis.

From FEAR…try REACTION. i.e. I am having a reaction to this situation.

Try using other words that evoke a more positive chemical reaction in your body.

Words like: GRATITUDE, LOVE, APPRECIATION, HAPPINESS. Those words relate to the release of dopamine and serotonin…which are really good things for your health and well-being.

Words have power. Choose yours carefully and intentionally.
