Humans are the bearers of their collective experiences. From childhood, we drag with us our victories, failures, hurts, pains and assorted dents and dings. Some reside buried deep within us, while others are sitting right there on the surface.
It all becomes the “baggage” of our lives. Some are feather-light, while others are indeed ominously heavy.
The question we must deal with is whether they are still useful in our lives—or just burdens we tote around because we have never learned how to leave at the door.
The next chapter can provide us with the time and opportunity to examine these bits of luggage and decide what serves us best going forward.
Retirement gives us the blessing of time to ponder, examine and consider what promotes our well-being vs. what drags us down.
Our decades of work, raising families, etc. don’t typically allow us to contemplate these feelings.
But now, we can.
