I was 24 when I bought my first home.
Before the closing, I aligned my vacation from work and outlined what needed to happen. I wrote down everything from the date and time of the closing to the moving company and painting the various rooms in the house. I had everything organized and ready!
The only problem was the closing got postponed, and everything fell apart. I was FURIOUS and told the attorney (and anyone else who would listen) just how mad I was when my plan fell apart. My neatly packaged idea of control was decimated.
Fast forward to now, I have given up on the idea of control, except for what I eat, when I exercise, and when I practice or write. I control very little in my life and now allow for modifications, shifts, changes, delays, or calls from my daughter to come help with the girls.
I have never been a “go with the flow” kind of person. But as I age, I don’t see a better option.
