I was raised with the idea that becoming successful requires discipline, like most of you probably were.
Sure, we need discipline to create good habits, such as exercise or eating well, but it’s also important for learning how to plow through problems and obstacles. We need discipline to deal with life’s inevitable challenges while we pursue a goal and stick with our objectives even when it’s tough.
In Chapter X, it might be easy to think that discipline can be tossed aside like a business suit no longer needed. But the knowledge and experience we’ve acquired throughout our careers is so useful for navigating future challenges in the next chapter.
During this part of your life, you should examine your deep-rooted habits to determine whether they’re useful or not. But whatever you choose to do, applying discipline matters, from keeping your finances in order to practicing a level of selfcare.
I admit, there are times I battle with this and default to a lazier, less disciplined mode. But there is a limit to how far I’m willing to go down that path before tapping the brakes.
For example, during my work life, I shaved every day. Now I might let a day go by, sometimes two, but not more than that. I’m learning to be a little looser in some ways by examining the importance and meaning of each action.
Are you experiencing the same things when it comes to discipline? Are you evaluating what needs to be adhered to and what you can allow to relax a bit?
Let me know your thoughts.
