I was sitting on the couch mindlessly channel surfing. Suddenly THE voice came into my head, “Things are resting tend to stay at rest; things in motion tend to stay in motion. Get your bum ass off the couch, there are things to do!” It was my father.
“Listen to the music and write what you feel.” It was the voice of my fifth-grade teacher, George Hackes.
“Treat everyone with care and respect.” Al the butcher (my first boss).
“DON’T WAKE ME UP!” my mother. (trust me, as a kid, you did NOT want to wake my mother up!)
We live with the voices of others in our heads, planting feelings of shame, fear, guilt, inspiration and a wide array of emotional responses.
Some of those voices move us forward, some send us reeling. The question is: How do I ignore those voices that are no longer useful and allow the positive messages to reverberate clearly?
Whose voices do you hear and how does it impact your life?
