Feel, Don’t Think

After a lifetime of problem-solving, I’m learning to give my brain a rest. Instead of measuring, analyzing, examining, probing, and scrutinizing, I’m trying to shift my awareness to my body.

The other day, while walking, I caught myself mid-inquiry and decided to shut down the thoughts in favor of experiencing things differently. I focused on my breathing, the wind on my face, and the sun on my head. I tuned in to the sounds around me: birds, cars, branches moving, and my own heartbeat.

The experience was profound. I ended the walk feeling grateful, calm, and centered. The absence of internal chatter made a real difference in my day. Realizing that I could exercise some semblance of control over my thoughts and direct my attention made the experience that much more meaningful.

Have you had a moment like this? I’d love to hear your thoughts… uh, I mean, your feelings.
