Feelings. We all have them, right? Feelings come in different flavors, like physical and emotional ones. Somehow, I think most men are more comfortable with the former than the latter, at least verbally.
It’s pretty typical to share things like “my shoulder hurts” or “my back aches,” but not so much when it comes to saying “I feel sad,” “I feel lonely,” or “I feel depressed.”
Somehow, we’ve decided that sharing physical aches and pains is more acceptable than sharing emotional pain or suffering. While I am not a fan of whining or self-pity, I am a big fan of asking for help and support when things are tough.
When it comes to our well-being, we need to “man up” and ask for help when things are rough. I wonder how many real men would disagree.
