These last eight months have been harrowing in my family. Eight months ago, my daughter gave birth to a micro-preemie baby due to complications. It was touch and go for both mother and baby.
During this same time, our son was going through a very difficult time at work, dealing with an abusive employer and an impossible situation. Add in COVID-19 and my wife dealing with her own work transition, needless to say, it’s been challenging.
Thankfully, all seems to be okay on all fronts, at least for now. My new granddaughter is nearly 13lbs (up from 1lb 7oz) and thriving; my son is in a new job and life (at this moment) is feeling a lot calmer.
This past weekend, we were able to get away to change the scenery to a place in the Berkshire hills. The birds, swaying trees and nighttime rainstorms provided the soundtrack for tranquility. It was time to take a breath and feel gratitude.
I’m back after five days of breathing new air, feeling a new sun on my face and a change in scenery; the shift was monumental in finding calm in the storm.
How do you find your calm?
