When I think of flexibility, my brain immediately thinks of yoga. Yes, I know how my body feels after an hour on the mat. Unused muscles are brought back to life and I feel more alive and “in” my body. It’s good and I know I need more of it.
But flexibility also extends to one’s thinking and being. It’s easy to fall into patterns of behavior and models of thoughts that are rigid and fixed; it’s comfortable.
While it might be comfortable, it might not be what and who you need to be right now. It takes self-awareness and desire to examine our thought patterns and beliefs. And then there’s the decision as to whether or not they are still appropriate, necessary and beneficial.
Consider how you might exercise that part of you in ways that promote flexible thinking–and how you might attack problems in new and different ways.
If you’ve bumped up against this, please let me know how you’ve managed to make changes in your thinking. I’d love to know!
