I recently attended a conference of the Financial Life Planning community in Portland. While I had a long flight, including the red-eye home, it was a wonderful experience. During the two-day meeting, the word “flourish” was used and it caught my attention. In fact, it gave me an “aha moment”.
Using the dictionary definition:
- Verb: (of a person, animal, or other living organism) grow or develop in a healthy and vigorous way, especially as a result of a particularly favorable environment.
My first thought was: YES, Chapter X is all about flourishing during this life stage. It felt like the perfect word, after all, “healthy and vigorous” is the key here. In addition, the idea of a favorable environment hit all the right notes.
Think about what goes into creating a favorable environment. We need to have close social connections, engage in meaningful (fun) activities, continue to learn and work on staying healthy and active.
Consider your environment and what you need to focus on to create, maintain or develop to flourish. Take an inventory of your life and see what’s working and what might need some attention.
Here’s to you and your life of flourishing!
