Intentions

By June 11, 2020 No Comments

Intentions are great. I intended to have the attic cleaned out weeks ago. In truth, I did dump the last remaining Wrestling Buddies that my son used to play with 20+ years ago.

I also brought my ‘legacy’ from my parents of 78 rpm records (that probably date back to the 1920’s or 30’s), to basement cabinets. I even managed to bring some dumbbells downstairs to live with the rest of my exercise equipment.

Progress has been made, but in the scope of getting it done, I have moved a shovel full of sand off the beach.

We all create intentions…we make lists, prioritize, assess, plan and schedule. But sometimes $h$% happens and it all grinds to a halt.

You can beat yourself up.

You can make excuses.

You can reorder your list and make it less of a priority, in favor of something else.

You can observe it and ask yourself important questions that lead to understanding why it’s not done.

Beating yourself up is definitely not the way to go. Excuses are a waste of your time and energy. And reordering your list based on adjusted priorities is a good thing.

But nothing is more important than digging deeply into your “why” and observing your actions (or inactions) for what they are: a very human part of ourselves.

Be gentle with yourself…it’s a path to learning, loving and improving the world.

Cheers,

Michael
