It All Comes Down to Control

By March 29, 2025 No Comments

Life is a constant battle for control. As humans, we want it, need it, crave it.

However, as much as we desire control, we are severely limited in what we can truly put our fingerprints on. For example, we might want a healthy body, eat right, exercise, and get good sleep. We can do everything right—but does that mean we can control whether we trip, fall victim to a car accident, or possess a gene that leads to ill health? Big no.

I mean, we can control what we eat, but we can only hope that it contributes to our overall well-being. We can control what time we go to bed, but there are no guarantees that our sleep will be restful and rejuvenating. I could go on and on, but you get the point.

Make a list of what you can control, I mean REAL control, and then think about all the things you think you can control. The variables that life presents are far more powerful than your wants, needs, or desires. I’m very interested in biohacking and the possibilities for living as healthily as possible, but I marvel at some of the people in this community who claim to have the magic bullet to extend their lives to 140. Talk about control freaks and a fair amount of chutzpah.

The problem is not wanting control. It’s in the attachment or erroneous belief in an individual’s power to master outcomes beyond reason. It is tantamount to living in a fantasy—and a boatload of frustration.

Reality means differentiating that which you can control and what is aspirational. Focus on what you truly can control and let go of the rest….you’ll be so much happier for it.
