I’m no athlete. That being said, when the opportunity arises to watch athletes compete in track events, I am mesmerized. I marvel at the speed, agility, and strength of the competitors as they run, jump, throw, and vault. But the event that truly captivates me is the high hurdles. The combination of speed, coordination, and concentration is astounding!
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve felt like I’m the one facing hurdles on the track. When I look down the “track” of life, all I see are barriers blocking my path to a simple, uncomplicated existence. But, staying true to one of my favorite sayings, I try to kiss reality somewhere near the mouth.
Thankfully, all the obstacles I’m encountering are either minor or self-created (which doesn’t make them any less challenging). At times, my mind inflates them to Olympic proportions. After some deep thought and breathing, I realize I need to take my own advice: slow down, reassess, and prepare as best I can for what lies ahead.
Undoubtedly, I’ll knock over some hurdles. Undoubtedly, I’ll fall—without the incredible grace of top athletes. But I’m committed to getting back up and continuing forward.
What about you? How do you face life’s hurdles? What gets you through the doubt, fear, and chaotic thinking?
