Who doesn’t like to be comfortable? You know, that perfect chair, cool pillow, financial security? What’s not to like?
But your comfort zone need not extend to every phase of your life.
Consider the golfer (of which I am not one), who happily languishes shooting 110. Fine! But most golfers I know strive to constantly lower their scores—which is accompanied by a churning of their stomach and a headache.
Consider the gardener who is perfectly fine with a vegetable garden laden with weeds and detritus. But most gardeners I know are preening the beds, adding fertilizer and top soil and keeping unwanted growth away from their plants. They are driven to grow a better tomato or eggplant.
Consider the weekend grill master who is OK if the steak is burned or the chicken is undercooked. Most grillers work towards the perfection of their product: they’re concerned not only with the proper sourcing of meat, but the temperature, heat location and the pride of a meal well cooked. They are focused on getting it right!
There are times where comfort is appropriate and times to reach for more than just OK.
As you explore your next chapter, consider the passions and drives that matter to YOU. It’s important.
No growth occurs in your comfort zone! In some instances—that’s perfectly fine. But not where it matters.
