If you are a consumer of news, you know that name-calling has been all the rage for the last five years. It’s become a potent weapon used to cower opposition on both ends of the political spectrum.
“Moron.”
“Fraud.”
“Liar.”
It’s a throwback to elementary school and childish bullying.
“Fat.”
“Stupid.”
“Ugly.”
It’s enough.
If we are to improve as a society, we need to stop this nasty, meaningless and unproductive way of pushing those with whom we disagree down.
We need to set the model, change the discourse and stop falling for the “red meat” that makes us salivate to respond without consideration.
If we are to help heal the world, we need to begin with ourselves.
