Meaning

No pockets in the shroud

I recently had the privilege of interviewing Professor Meir Statman on my podcast.

Among the very wonderful stories, he used the phrase, “there are no pockets in the shroud.”

We’ve all heard and probably used the phrase, “you can’t take it with you.” But, for most of us, the words trip off the tongue without engaging with what it really means.

Our legacy is the sum total of what we leave behind; how we live, how we treat others, how we love, moments we share and the gift of presence, caring and intimacy.

Think about the legacy of those you lost and how you hold them in your heart and mind. Financial security is one thing, but legacy is not a dollar amount.

Meir’s words have been so meaningful to ponder.

Our ‘footprints in the sand’ are not cast in gold, they are held in the hearts of others.
