To celebrate my 66th year, I voluntarily entered a cryotherapy chamber and exposed myself to -235F temperatures for 3 minutes. On purpose, really.
After reading Dave Asprey’s book, Superhuman, I became interested in exploring ways to attend to my health. On purpose, really.
The effects of this severe cold are supposed to improve and boost immune system, collagen production, reduce inflammation, increased energy, improve sleep. All areas that are of interest to me, so I did it. On purpose, really.
If you had suggested to me 3 months ago that I would do this, I probably would still be doubled over in fits of hysterical laughter.
I was pretty nervous as I approached the tank donned only in socks, slippers and a robe (and underwear).
My heart was racing and I kept thinking about how horrible this was going to be and maybe I shouldn’t do it and every possible negative thought imaginable, including voluntarily having myself committed.
But I was able to observe the resistance I felt and push it away in favor of doing something way outside of my comfort zone. There’s fertile soil in that space beyond the space of “same old-same old”.
I asked the attendant to video the experience (don’t worry, only the area from my neck up was visible). The three minutes flew by and only in the last ten seconds did I begin to feel a little uncomfortable around my knees.
Donning my robe and stepping out of the chamber, I was elated and indeed energized. Maybe it was the after-effect of the treatment or maybe it was the relief that I had indeed survived. But it was awesome!
In Chapter X, you have the opportunity to try things beyond your comfort zone. My best advice, do it ON PURPOSE, really!
