Pillar of strength

As men, we are taught from a very young age that part of our role is to provide a strong support for others.

In the family unit, the father’s role of provider is to be strong in the face of adversity…to be the pillar of strength. It is modeled in books and film with regularity.

But what if you’re not feeling strong and not able to support yourself, let alone others?

Are you holding yourself to a construct or belief system that just isn’t true?

I can’t help but think that we’re all going to come out of this ‘situation’ with some level of PTSD—and while you’re busy trying to be that fictitious pillar, odds are it’s not going to be pretty.

My suggestions:

Seek counseling help from a professional.

Freely admit when you’re struggling (it’s called being authentic).

Talk to others whom you trust and share your experience.

It takes a very strong person to admit they’re struggling…know that you’re not alone.
