I used to tell people, “If I can do it, you can do it!” I used it as encouragement, attempting to diminish the fear of trying something that may seem daunting.
Upon reflection, I’ve decided to remove this statement from my vocabulary.
The truth is, we all possess our own superpowers. Each of us has areas where we excel and face challenges in others beyond our abilities.
A more useful approach might be, “Give it a try and see if it’s something you enjoy.” I realize that I need to take the ME out of it. We needn’t compare ourselves with anyone else. Instead, we should celebrate our individual abilities, preferences, and interests.
I’ve also come to understand that by saying, “If I can do it, you can do it,” I’m inadvertently belittling myself. The point is Chapter X is a great opportunity to reconsider, reassess, and reimagine who we are, what we say, and what we believe.
It’s all about growth.
