I hate the idea of routines. But I dearly need them, at least in certain parts of my life.
Following a summer of travel and activities that included a European river cruise, stints in the Berkshires and the Jersey Shore, along with attending a writer’s conference in Maryland, my routines were shot to hell.
During these three months, my workout schedule, trumpet practice and lessons, recovery time in the sauna, therapy bed and cold plunge, plus time spent with friends, all suffered noticeable setbacks.
While I definitely enjoyed my time away, both on vacation and with my children and grandchildren, I felt the impact on these other areas of my life. It dawned on me that I don’t handle extended deviations from my routine very well.
My current focus is to get back on track and reclaim the “flow.” It takes perseverance, determination, and dare I say, a fair amount of grit. But hey, isn’t navigating life itself a test of grit and determination?
