Self-Awareness (Part 1)

For many, life after our careers is a struggle. During our work life, we pretty much knew what our day, week, month and years would be (at least in terms of our activities).

But once that’s gone, filling our time meaningfully can be challenging if we simply don’t have the tools, experience or mindset to move forward with confidence.

That being said, we need to build the tools, gain the experience and shift our mindsets to embark on this journey. It begins with self-awareness.

Yeah, yeah, what does that even mean?

Self-awareness is the act of slamming on the brakes to the thoughts, feeling and actions we take without thinking.

I will be writing more about this in the coming days, but for now, try this exercise:

Make a list of everything you do during the day without conscious, mindful consideration (for example, brushing your teeth, eating, etc.). If that feels daunting, start with a list of what you do, specifically from the time you get up, then note whether it is intentional/mindful or just habit.

Let’s start there.

Let me know how this goes for you and what, if anything, you observe.
