In Part 1, I introduced the idea that retirement can be overwhelming, and that LIFE IS MESSY. The second key takeaway is that beginning anything new with an open mind and heart, free from the pressure of perfection, is the best place to start.
Our lives have many components:
- Financial well-being
- Family/close relationships
- Social/community
- Health/fitness
- Personal growth
- Leisure activities
- Home & location
- Intellectual engagement/productive pursuits
Yeah, it’s pretty damn complicated when you break it down like that.
In fact, it can be downright overwhelming. But the goal here is to simplify and make small steps in the right direction. Take a personal inventory of these areas of your life. What calls out to you? What’s working and what’s not?
Choose the area that speaks to you the loudest and begin there. Ask yourself the big questions:
- Why is this important to me now?
- Do I have the knowledge and ability to focus on this area?
- What resources do I need to move forward?
- Am I in the right state of mind to begin?
Stay tuned for Part 3.
