During our recent Chapter X Zoom get-together, we were joined by Dr. David Bernstein, a retired gerontologist, author and new participant in our community. He talked about the importance of socialization as a means of navigating a full, healthy and meaningful next chapter.
Harry Scheyer also shared how he has reconnected with various people, including old high school friends.
The message is clear: making new friends and reconnecting with old friends is good for your health and happiness.
Living a solitary, lonely life is not a path one should follow, as the research indicates that lonely people become sick people and all the misery that follows.
While men are “taught” to be independent, strong, solo acts, that message is counterproductive and dangerous. We need meaningful interaction with others.
How are you navigating this part of your journey?
