Oscar Wilde was quoted as saying: “With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone.”
I love this quote as it clearly lays out the difference between those who grow into wisdom and those who just age.
There’s also “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. Which would seem to say that we can’t learn, grow or adapt as we age. Is that so?
We have choices of course as to which we become: the wise or the change-resistant aged.
Wisdom is about the willingness to revisit and retest our beliefs. So much of what we believe has its roots firmly planted in our childhood—and we’ve rarely challenged them.
I urge you to turn your curiosity up high.
Consider what you believe—and why—as well as its roots.
Is it still true? Or are you living with a narrative that is not helpful, not affirming, not healthy and not wise? Our job is to share our wisdom generously; but make sure first that it is wisdom and not some outdated belief.
Cheers,
Michael
