The Heroes in Your Narrative

By April 27, 2021 No Comments

Our story is filled with people and events that, upon reflection, changed the direction of our lives. Maybe it was your father or mother, maybe it was your first boss, or maybe it was when you met your spouse. Or perhaps it was something completely different, like being fired from a job or making a really big mistake that created tons of conflict.

If you examine your narrative, think about those key people or events that shaped you, changed you, improved you, or broke you down only to provide you with space to learn and grow.

It’s important to understand your story and how it shapes who you are now. It can also provide some insight as to who you are, or who you will become, in your next chapter.

I see that in many of those important moments for me, the villain became the hero.

For instance, the senior partner at a CPA firm (whom I’ve previously written about…remember the comma story?) who was so aggravating to work with, that when I was presented with the chance of leaving accounting for financial services, I leaped at the opportunity to work with a friend of mine—and get away from the lunacy the partner played in my life.

Without his insanity, I might still be putting big numbers in little boxes.

Who are your heroes? Did they start off as villains?
