I believe everyone harbors an inner critic. At least, I hope I’m not the only one. My inner critic speaks in my father’s voice. It tells me to do better; it convinces me that I am not enough; it admonishes me not to complain and urges me to be more disciplined and productive.
I assume that any psychologists reading this might think I am in dire need of help or perhaps some medication. However, at the same time, it’s the voice that kicks me in the proverbial rear when I become lazy.
Like all things, there are two-sides: the positive and the negative. I would prefer to hear less from the critic, but its messages are sometimes useful and necessary.
What about you? Do you have an inner critic? How do you manage it, or does it manage you?
