The Next Exploration

By October 2, 2021 No Comments

Okay, so you’re probably going to laugh at me. And as long as you do so with love in your heart, it’s all good (derision is not welcome here). For those of you who know me, you know I’m often attracted to things that are not necessarily “mainstream.”

For example, I enjoy roasting my own coffee. I make homemade sauerkraut and kombucha. I’ve tried making cheese and sourdough bread. While there are more, that’s enough to give you a taste of some of my endeavors.

This morning, I attended an Aikido class to learn about the practice and investigate whether it is something I wish to pursue. In my 20’s, I tried a form of Korean Karate (Tang Su Do) and honestly, it was not one of my high points. A chubby physique and tight hamstrings are not exactly tailor-made for kicking and leaping in the air. It was a failure!

But Aikido seems to be more grounded. It’s a way of movement that will not require me to fly, but to fall (I’ve already demonstrated my acuity with that). It’s both to balance and move with grace (that remains to be seen).

I haven’t decided yet whether to go forward, but it is under deep consideration. Is it in my comfort zone? Hell no! Do I worry a bit about injury?

Perhaps a little. Do I wish to explore new things, ideas and activities that increase my abilities, knowledge, awareness, balance and fitness? HELL YEAH!

Stay tuned for an update.

What are you exploring these days?
